Are there rules to follow in order to succeed in crowded markets?

Many entrepreneurs make the mistake of trying to break through, or find that next market that allows them to sell their products or services to that new audience. But why try to find new markets when there are already crowded ones that work?

Most people are afraid of diving into these markets and not experience success because there are so many businesses that already offer what they provide. However, a crowded market doesn’t mean that you won’t get your big break!

We prefer more extensive and complicated markets because they give us the opportunity to reinvent ourselves and be at the top of our game constantly. When it comes to succeeding in a crowded market it is all about well-placed passion and determination. Do you have those qualities?

As you might know, writing and marketing are two of the biggest industries worldwide, but those are the general things that we offer at Dr. Rissy’s Writing and Marketing. Using our business as an example, once you have the general idea of the market you want to dive into, it is time to make it more specific.

We know what we are passionate about— Helping our clients succeed. To stand out, we narrow it down—our achieved goal: becoming the #1 marketing and writing service across New Jersey. And even though our market is local, it is still considered a crowded market because there are many people in this city, and we also offer our services globally!

We have been working in a crowded market for more than five years now, and we want to share a few rules that you should consider if you’re going to grow and take your business to the next level.

Follow these rules if you want to grow in a crowded market

Get to know your territory

First, you need to know, research, and investigate the market you want to dive into. Why are your competitors and your audience interested in it? What makes it so unique?

Don’t be afraid of questioning yourself over and over again until you get all the answers. Take a look at your surroundings and anticipate your competitors. Once you have all the information in front of you, you will be ready to begin!

Be unique and think about your future.

When you arrive in a new market, it can be difficult to fit in and find yourself, but it is all about showing others what makes you unique.

And keep in mind that as you make your path along with this crowded market it is alright to reinvent your business. As we have mentioned before, Dr. Rissy’s Writing and Marketing has reinvented itself a couple of times, and that is what makes our audience still interested in who we are and what we offer.

We are currently talking about our services through Reels and TikTok, two new tools that our audience loves because they offer quick and concise information in one place.

Stop being lazy

Last but not least, don’t be lazy. This might seem obvious, but whenever entrepreneurs are working on a new project or diving into a new market, they don’t do consistent work due to self-sabotage. You might have been asking yourself, “What if it is not the right market? What if I don’t get the results that I want? What if I am not successful enough…?”

Stop thinking about these “what if” scenarios and make sure to get things done! A good tip is to write down all the tasks that need to be done daily, weekly, or monthly. When you organize yourself, it is so much easier to sit down and get things done.

What do the experts have to say?

We have discussed with multiple marketing experts about the topic. The first one is Rob Dube (@robddube), the Co-CEO of Image One, and his best advice about succeeding is crowded markets; it’s all about building long-lasting relationships with your customers:

“For us at imageOne, it’s ALL about our people and culture. Our core products have been commoditized, so we have to stand out—and our incredible, friendly team truly does that. Our clients know that this level of reliability and friendliness comes from a genuine place of care. Nothing is contrived. It’s just who we are as humans. When competitors struggle at marketing their culture and people, I’ve usually found a lack of authenticity—and customers can easily see through it. The only way to make it work is to build a legitimately strong, healthy, and happy company culture with people who love what they do.”

Another amazing person that we discussed with was Luke Mulks (@lukemulks) the VP of Business Operations at Brave Software who remarked on the importance of differentiating with others:

“A key to success in crowded markets is ensuring you’re delivering a product or service that either strongly differentiates from your competition, or radically disrupts the status quo.”

We also got the chance to speak with Marketing Manager Gregory Gapare (@GregTheMarketer). He told us about the importance of being unique and finding out what makes your brand special, and building a philosophy around it:

“To be able to succeed in crowded markets, your brand’s strength and differentiation can be determined by developing a simplified brand philosophy. The pursuit of uniqueness begins with ridding your brand of the non-essentials and telling your story better than your competitors.”

At the end of the day, when it comes to succeeding in crowded markets, it’s all about hard work, passion, and strategy. Ensure that your brand is always on the right track and find the best way for others to understand what makes your brand special.

Here at Dr. Rissy’s Writing and Marketing, we make sure to share what makes us proud about our job and what we love doing the most. Our social media reflects what makes us unique because we can share client’s success stories, who we are, and what we love doing in the same place.
