IS SOCIAL MEDIA A TIME-WASTER?

The debate rages on about whether there’s any good in social media or if it’s little more than a big time-waster.

The way we see it, social media has a ton to offer…if you use it right.

For example, at Dr. Rissy’s Writing and Marketing, we use social media to stay updated on relevant topics to both us and our clients, and also to stay informed about the latest news.

Social media is also a great way to find inspiration when you are feeling stuck and don’t know what to write about. A quick perusal of social media sites will provide you with tons of inspiration on new and intriguing topics that everyone is talking about and which you can write about.

If you are a designer, you can hit up sites like Instagram and Pinterest, check out the latest design and graphics trends, and get inspired that way.

So no, we wouldn’t dismiss social media as a simple time-waster. It all depends on how you are using them. Leave the funny distractions and personal use for after your work is done and you’ll quickly see social media’s true potential.

That all said: there is one app that can provide tons of inspiration, but also quickly suck you into hours of scrolling. That would be Tik-Tok.

TikTok allows different creators to perform their version of a trend or meme — seeing other people’s versions is as interesting as creating yours. It also gives everybody the opportunity to grow and evolve as a creator, which makes creators work extra hard on the videos they create for the platform.

Thing is, watching others perform their art on TikTok gets so addictive, you can spend a whole day there without getting bored. This, obviously, can be dangerous for your productivity.

Like with the other apps, Tik-Tok is not a time-waster, as long as you use it right. And set an alarm to remind you when it’s time to stop scrolling and get back to work.
