THE BASICS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGERS

If we could give one piece of advice to new social media managers, it’s this: do your research and always keep studying new trends. As social media managers, you have to always be at the top of your game. When you start working in the new and exciting world of social media, you start understanding two essential things:

First, your account won’t grow from one day to another. It is a job that takes a lot of dedication and passion for what you are doing. And second, you have to keep delivering new and exciting content to keep your audience going back to your page.

When it comes to growing your account, you will realize that engagement is key. You need to be able to connect with your audience through the different tools that social media platforms offer you. For example, if you are running an Instagram account, make sure to always engage with other accounts, answer comments, and use all the power of stories.

We have realized that stories make your audience feel closer to you. You are giving them a chance to get to know you, whether you are communicating with them as a business or as the person behind the business. You will figure out what they enjoy the most, and how to explode it to the maximal potential.

Content creation is also key when you are starting as a social media manager. You need to be aware of the trends, and even the memes, and be ready to use them across platforms. There’s a difference between creating basic content and creating out-of-the-box content that a lot of people will enjoy.

Don’t be afraid to jump into trends and create disruptive content – those are the kinds of things that will catch your audience’s attention and will keep them interested in who you are and what you are doing on your different social media platforms.

We discussed with social media expert and digital marketer Kevin Muema (@KelvinMuema_), who shared his advice: “My biggest advice for young people out there, for new social media managers is: study your field very well. For example, if you are a social media manager for a real estate company, research on other real estate companies and see what kind of content they post, the hashtags they use, and the frequency of posting. You will be able to learn more about the kind of content you need to share, the frequency of posting, and what hashtags to use.”

According to Lutalo Aryee (@LutaloAryee), it is important to “create an organized system to track work and clients!”. Remember that with social media marketing your clients are your number one priority – they are the reason why you are doing this, to make them and their businesses better. If they are happy their audience will be happy, and you will be able to achieve amazing results.

Don’t be afraid to jump into the social media world. Trust in yourself – you are capable of doing amazing and wonderful things!
